goed kerstfeest

We sit down together at Christmas,

we toast those who cannot be there,

throughout the laughter and plenty

we all know there's one empty chair.

There's frost on the grass in the orchard

where songbirds have gathered their choir,
snow colours the hawthorn, the holly,
we've heaped up the logs on the fire.
Those that we love may be fighting,
in countries where we've never been,
where it freezes at night in the mountains,
we wish they could be here to see

There are those who may have had children
who'll have families now of their own,
